This photograph I also took when I went home last week. It's a shot I took in my mother's living room, which is one of those living rooms that people have for decor purposes only. But, I feel the photograph follows the theme because it is curiously layered and I feel it gives an elegant, Victorian sense of "age." And the reason I say curiously is that the photograph entices you and makes you want to see more of the room. Another thing I love about this photograph, is how I was able to capture the reflection of the lamps in the marble table. I think it gives it a little something extra.

Sunday Afternoon

I came up with the idea for this photograph while I was at my uncle's house. I was sitting on the couch and I noticed the newspaper and a pen sitting on the coffee table. So, I went in the kitchen and got a coffee cup and I got my uncle's glasses and watch and arranged them on the table. After the third time shooting it, I came out with this. I feel it follows the theme because the foreground I composed represents "age" in the sense of an older man. Older men read the paper, with their cup of coffee and older men wear big faced watches. Also, I feel that the photograph is well layered. My composition in the foreground, the entertainment center in the middle, and the doorway in the background.

This photograph is my non-themed photograph for this week. It is a favorite of my work. I took this photograph when I went home for the weekend last week. The man and woman are a little statue that my mother has sitting on her entertainment center and when I thought it'd make for a great photograph. So. since I wanted to take the shot in black and white, I took it into the kitchen where there was more light. I opened the door that led outside, sat it down and begin taking different shots. Out of all of them, this one seemed to be the best for public view.

Innocent Curiosity

The reason I decided to shoot this flower is its innocence and curiosity. This flower is just one of the many in a small grassy area, as you'll see in my photostream on flickr, but it caught my eye because it was taller than all the other flowers that surrounded it. It stood out. When I got closer to it, I noticed one of the petals was hiding beneath the one next to it (as you can see above). I found this odd and interesting at the same time. It seemed as if this little flower stood up above the rest and waved its petal. I think it exemplifies simplicity at its best.

The Neighbor's Rose

For this themed photograph, I shot a picture of one of the roses in the neighbor's garden, thus the title. But, I zoomed in on the rose and took the shot. I feel it is very simplistic, yet beautiful at the same time. The rose stood out to me for two reasons. There were only two roses in the entire garden and the two roses were the only thing in the garden that were pink. Everything else was yellow, green, and purple. I think this photograph reflects the theme well.

Heaven Sent

This photograph is my non-themed photograph for the week. When I went home for the weekend a couple of weeks ago, I took some shots and this is one I took inside of the house. It's actually a part of an old lamp that belonged to my grandmother and my mother had the lamps fixed when my grandmother passed away. I wanted to photograph this because I like how the light from the lamp shines down on the angels on each side. It makes me think of God sending angels down from heaven with "The Light" above them and their eyes closed. And I felt black and white did the photograph more justice.

Blurred Dream

This themed photograph I took on campus behind Madison hall. One of the trees along the fence had a branch hanging lower than the other trees, so I walked over the the branch and looked at the leaves and the branch itself to see if there was anything I could photograph. While inspecting the leaves, I realized I could look through them to see other objects, one of them being a car. When I saw how the parked car was framed by the leaves, it made me think of the whole idea of "so close, yet so far away," and how everyone has that one dream car. So, I decided to blur the car and the leaves in the foreground to leave the audience in curiosity about the "dream car" and to make it seem like they're really there looking through the leaves.

This is one of my photographs for the theme of the week. I was at a friend's house and noticed she had on green socks. So I went out to the car, got my camera and came back in and started to play around with possible composition ideas. While looking at the polka dots on her socks, I thought of the spare change in my pocket and decided to make a face with the change and have the face framed by my friend's socks. 

Dream

This is my one non-themed photograph and I decided to use simplicity as my rule of composition. I was babysitting my younger cousin last week and we were outside playing. Among the numerous toys she just had to bring outside, were her box of blocks. While I was helping her spell the word scream, a block with the letter "D" was lying near by and I thought of the word dream and how significant the word's meaning is, so I decided to photograph it. I placed the blocks on some old bricks stacked up across the yard and took the shot.
